Special Guests

Did you know that, on top of all the awesome art, shopping, and entertainment Oddmall has to offer (for FREE, I might add), we also have a variety of fantastic special guests for you to meet? It’s true, we do. Here’s a brief list of the guests we have confirmed so far.

Killy Dwyer (Mockstar)

Killer Killy Dwyer is “mockstar” comedic performance artist and musician. Her catchy and completely unexpected one-of-a-kind act can best be described as dark comedy punk cabaret using vocal looping, a whole host of instruments, mistakes and improvisation, audience participation, found sound, toys and apps. “Killy is like Reggie Watts meets Bridget Everette meets Andy Kaufman.” Often, Killy mixes multi media video work, puppetry, dance and performance art into her electric, edgy shows. Killy is a 2 time Andy Kaufman Award Finalist, was named “One of Five Female, Brooklyn Artists You Should Know” by Brooklyn Exposed, was nominated by Planet Connections for Best Band/Musician and has received Frigid Fest’s coveted Audience Choice awards for her sharp, satirical comedy musicals “Mock Bottom”, “Hyster-Killy”, “KILL THE BAND” and “My Box”. Her music has been featured on Dr. Demento, Sirius XM’s and on NPR’s American Parlor Songbook. Killy co-produced the NY Funny Songs fest the last few years, both giving and getting opportunities to showcase comedy music in a fun, festival atmosphere. She tours her act world wide and has her own public access show “Alter Ego” airing on NYC’s MNN beginning summer 2016!

Jezebel is a middle eastern dance instructor and performer. She started studying middle eastern dance in 1997 and later began teaching at workshops and seminars.

Her study of music theory enabled her to recognize how to mesh movement to music and her innate ability to envision sound as movement earned her the position of choreographer with troupe Hareem Shar’eem, Wicked Gypsy, Maevyn, JezeMel and The Shuvani Jezebels specializing in solos as well as group numbers which utilize her unique fusion of American tribal, Gypsy and Gothic Bellydance.

Jezebel’s classes focus not only on learning individual movements, but on putting separate movements together into a choreography that echoes a specific piece of music. She feels that musicality is a vital part of a dancer’s repertoire and enjoys combining movements from several different dance styles to make her choreography fun, challenging, and innovative.

The studio is located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Hire Jezebel for classes, workshops, choreographies, or for a performance–solo or with one of her troupes. For more information on class times.

Visions of the Nile

Visions of the Nile located in Akron, OH, offers the very best in bellydance instruction in Northeast Ohio. We believe that Bellydance is more than just dancing, it is an artform that touches the innermost spirit of a person. It is a way to express yourself in movements that are invigorating and enhance your sense of well-being. Belly dancing began as a way for women to get in touch with their inner self and a way to alleviate boredom in the harem. It is a good way to get fit and lose weight with stretching and low impact movements. It is the only dance form that women of all shapes, sizes and ages can perform on an equal standing. As we evolve we are constantly looking for ways to improve and expand the potential inside us. To meet this need, we have added an additional classroom. In addition to belly dance and Polynesian dance, we now offer Reiki, meditation and meditative dance, massotherapy, and T’ai Chi. We also have an extensive library that features literature, video tapes, dvds, and books covering the services we offer.
We believe in giving back to the community. To this end we have danced at the following Cancer Society events: Relay for Life in Springfield, Barberton, Massillon, Hudson, Stow; and Making Strides at Canal Park. We have also sponsored a Shimmy-A-Thon to raise donations for the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. We have also done benefits such as the Teddy Bears to Cuddle Drive with benefited the Battered Women’s Shelter and Haven of Rest. We have danced at various arts festivals around the area, we have performed for style shows and art openings and also danced at numerous nursing homes. “It is just
such a win/win proposition for us” says Ameenah, “the residents are in a state of sensory overload for days after.”
